To create an environment of success you must first start with accessing your current environment. Then you can make changes according to what you specifically need.
If the goal is to create and live a life of success, a life you love. It’s important to assess and re-assess what you can change and improve in your life and environment often.
It’s important to regularly access which areas of your life need more attention and self-care. As you grow your life and the situations you find yourself in are evolving. Your self-care needs are likely shifting too.
Identify the different parts of your life and major activities that you engage in each day and list them out. For example, work/career, school, relationships, family, hobbies and health are just some that might be on your list.
Think about the aspects of your life areas that cause you stress. Aspects that may be hindering an environment of success in these areas. And think of some ways you might address that stress.
From the list you created on #1 you can list stressors in each of your life. List out a few potential ways to improve the situation and/or decrease your stress related to it.
You may already be aware of self-care activities that you enjoy. For this you’ll want to list out some activities that will help you in each of your specific life areas. In social areas, spending time with friends or developing boundaries may be a way to build healthy social connection. While this also ensures that your needs are being met.
You cannot physically or mentally create an environment of success all at once. Identify one small step in each area to begin caring for yourself better. Think small. What is one step in each area that you can take over the next week or even month?
Try not to think too far ahead here. Life changes quick so take it one step at a time. It’s important to remember that the next step often depends on the outcome of the first step. And to give yourself a little grace. In one area the first attempt may work great. In others you might need to re-evaluate, adjust and possibly even re-try before moving on.
Change is hard. Whether or not you planned to, you’ve created your entire life to be one way. Now you are re-evaluating that and potentially changing certain aspects of each area of your life. It would be unrealistic to not expect a few bumps in the road.
Instead of jumping and closing our eyes, hoping that no challenges come our way. Let’s anticipate what challenges may come and start to plan for them. We will be better equipped to handle the roadblocks that pop up on our journey by anticipating them. This will prevent any major unexpected detours.
With everything going on in our lives, it can be hard to make self-care a priority. However, this just might be the most important part of creating and living a life you love. Self-care may even seem selfish at times. You’ll find that you are more effective in every aspect of your life, when you are caring for yourself first. This includes areas that help others.
Self-care goes beyond just our own mental health, it plays a key role in our physical health as well. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), self-care helps to promote health, prevent disease, and help people better cope with illness.
Your life should be based on your needs. Focused on what is currently going on in your life. As well as what goals you have for yourself. The demands of your daily life will likely play a large role in what type of environment and self-care you need.
If you’re a busy college student who is mentally stimulated with a bustling social life you might want to focus more on your physical self-care. Whereas, if you are a busy working parent and aren’t spending time with others as often you’d like, you may want to focus more on social self-care.
The goal here is to not reach your breaking point. It can be helpful to access your life areas and environment often. Take baby steps each day to ensure that you are getting what you need. What you need to manage the stressors and challenges in your life. As well as to actively create and live a life you love, setting yourself up for success.
